Dr. Jamala Gurban

I am a specialist in general medicine and family medicine and have been working for around fifteen years in various departments of LKH Graz as well as at the Medical University of Graz; most recently, I have worked mainly on the palliative care unit and in the mobile palliative care team, in the emergency department (ZAM), for the past year additionally at the ‘accident hospital’ (UKH), and in the primary care sector, including at the Medius primary care centre. My clinical work is based on a double medical degree, which I initially obtained abroad and then completed with a doctorate at the Medical University of Graz. My long-standing involvement in various research projects (primarily in the field of diabetes mellitus) and a wide range of continuing and advanced training in palliative care, psychosocial medicine and emergency medicine have systematically deepened my professional experience. In addition, I worked for many years as a medical Russian – German interpreter, as a birth companion at the parent–child centre (Eltern- Kind-Zentrum), and as a social care worker at the City of Graz (Magistrat Graz), which has broadened my intercultural and psychosocial skills in patient contact. I am married and the mother of three children.
